Re: Breastfeeding with PPD?

I'm also taking zoloft while breastfeeding. I had bad ppd with ds1 and wanted to "head it off" with ds2 (3 weeks today). I started taking it the day after he was born and haven't seen any negative effects. You need to do what will keep you happy and healthy so that baby is/stays happy and healthy.

Re: Breastfeeding with PPD?

Good for you for recognizing that you need help! I didn't realize I had PPD with ODD until I was pregnant with YDD and got even more depressed. I'm wondering how much pain/trauma I could have avoided if I had just admitted to myself that I was depressed and needed to change things.

I never took meds but I know that there are several that are perfectly safe with breastfeeding. Amanda Rose at Rebuild From Depression specifically has an article on Zoloft. I hope I'm not violating the User Agreement, but there are lots of resources over at Mothering Magazine about what meds are safe/not safe for nursing and I second getting in touch with La Leche League, the leaders will help you even if you've never attended a meeting.

BTW, I found the Rebuild from Depression book to be a life saver. If it weren't for that book I'd probably be suffering as much with DD2 as I did with DD1.
PPD? Read this.
