Hand painting yarn - newb style

I have to preface this by saying that this is not my yarn. My best friend has decided to give yarn dyeing a try and this was his first try results.
He has always wondered why I didnt just dye yarn myself instead of ordering it - now he knows!

Anyhow, he wanted me to show this to some mamas who would understand and ask if yall have any feedback or suggestions. He used the hand painting method this time, but he is already starting on more in different techniques. I think he has found a new hobby.

So, what do you think?

oh that looks yummy...I would be afraid of the red bleeding a lot looks like it already has

Looks like the red and blue mixed a lot. I had that happen and it made a cool effect, but it definitely affected the brightness of my yarn. Not bad for a first attempt.

LoL - yeah, he said he put blue and red together so he would have purple when it bled and it wouldnt look too bad.
He did do this with kool aid though so Im thinking with some good dye he might be a little better.

Yeah, every time I use koolaid it bleeds a lot and blends together. I think you are right that better dyes wouldn't so that as much. But I actually don't mind the purple. I think it looks nice. The blue is a pretty color.
