Re: Listeria Outbreak?

With all of these veggie outbreaks it got me thinking, how do you wash your fruit and vegetables? I normally just give them a quick rinse in water. I'm thinking that I should probably start doing more. I know norwex sells a veggie wash. I wonder if it actually works?

Ive been wondering about that veggie wash too.

I have been rubbing and rinsing and rubbing and rinsing much longer than normal. I don't know if it actually helps or not but it makes me feel better. I think the insidious thing about the cantaloupe was, who washes the outside of their cantaloupe? No one eats the outside. But in the future I will wash all the melons outsides that i might buy.

We use baking soda added to a sink full of water. It washes chemicals and pesticides off and neutralizes uranium & chlorine (which isn't in our water but in most). I also rinse the veggies after.

I wash everything as you cut into the fruit or veggie and bring the pesticides etc from the skin to the flesh. I had some mandarin oranges this week and didn't wash them before peeling... Well DD & I and our guest have not been feeling well and the only thing the three of us have eaten in common have been those mandarins.

...I only started doing that after I cut into a tropical grapefruit and the fruit was soooo sour because I cut it open instead you're supposed to cut the peel off then cut it open. Showed me how much of the outer layer you can spread over the flesh.

Read this today....

Don't eat deli meat or soft serve ice cream (to avoid exposure to a potentially dangerous bacterium called Listeria).

I know! I was really surprised. Apparently it can hang out in the machines
