Crochet longies with elastic waist band

I hate drawstrings (making them, threading them and I feel they are not safe) so I decided to do an elastic waist band. I adjusted the Little Fire pants pattern to allow for an elastic waist band. It was some trial and error, but I am very happy with the results. The first two pics are from the outside and the last two are showing where I left room to repair/adjust the elastic later on. I am not sure I want to leave quite that much of an opening next time, but this was the first pair I did.

Great conversion to elastic. Drawstrings can be trouble for busy hands. =)

Re: Crochet longies with elastic waist band

Very nice! I did an elastic waistband pair a few weeks ago...it's crazy how much easier it is when getting DD dressed/undressed than a drawstring! I'm thinking maybe an adjustable waist w/ the buttonhole elastic next time. Is that what you used?

Nope. Didn't think about that. I just turned at the end of each row and left a stitch undone to leave an open space. I sewed the elastic together then stitched the waist band closed over it. It looked like the opening was too wide until I turned them right side out. Looks like it may be just right.

I figured with the opening, I can cut the old elastic and thread new elastic through if needed. Though it may be a bit of a pain to sew while in there. Next time I buy elastic, I think I will get the button hole kind and maybe just twist the buttons into the waistband. I think the pants look better with an elastic waist band, too.
