Re: Shannan for a boy?
I've never heard of a boy named Shannan. It sounds like a nice name though for a boy!

Re: Shannan for a boy?
Not in this house. We like our boys to have masculine names and our girls to have feminine ones.
I don't like opposite sex names at all.

Re: Shannan for a boy?
I have known so many Shannon's that are males. Must be an older generation or European thing. It was a common name here when I was a small kid. In fact, I had no idea it was a girls name until 2nd grade and there was a girl in my class named that...LOL!

IMO if you hear it and think "girl" it's soo feminine for a boy and vice versa! I love some 'used to be' boys names but just can't so it if people can read and think girl. Like I would totally love to name a boy McKinley but it's too close to all the other stolen boys names. Like Jordon and Evan, Ryan, etc. All becoming girl names and it sucks! Grr. Coming from someone whose name was originally male

Re: Shannan for a boy?
I think it depends on where you are from and how old you are. While some poeple are simply being "original" - I know many who still use old family names, ethnic names, or are older and remember fond names when growing up.

Re: Shannan for a boy?
I think you should go with what you like. I have no problem with names for girls that are boy names and vice versus. It's a personal decision.
We do think about what kids will call the kids (all the mean things they could think of) but in reality, kids will be rude and mean no matter what if that's their personality. No matter what you do to prevent it, everyone gets made fun of at some point in their lives. My brother tried to say that we shouldn't name our DD Ailyn (A-lynn) because kids would call her Alien. Well it's entirely possible we still love the name and that's her name. I bet she will kick a$$ if someone tries to make fun of her and I won't care Just sayin!
