Re: Heartburn remedy?

For me, drinking milk before I eat sometimes helps. Plus a good swig whenever it starts acting up.

...we go through a lot of milk.

Re: Heartburn remedy?

If you take too many tums, it can cause rebound heartburn. Plus, too much calcium can bind up iron and make you iron deficient. So, constantly popping Tums isn't necessarily a good idea. Milk can also cause rebound heartburn in some people.

Evaluating your diet and keeping a food diary might help you identify foods or beverages that especially trigger your heartburn.

My doctor lets me take ranitidine (Zantac) if I really need it. It is Category B, same as Tylenol. Talk to your doctor if the heartburn becomes unbearable.

I'll have to so some more research on papaya enzyme, because I've had bad heartburn every evening this week so far. I'd prefer not to have to take Zantac all the time if I can help it.

Re: Heartburn remedy?

Seriously, the only thing that works for me is completely cutting out grains and sugars. My tummy just can't handle them without giving me heartburn. I had a biscuit yesterday during breakfast and I totally paid for it the rest of the day.
