Colustrum question...

I had major oversupply issues with my son and was having to pump very early on to at least let off the engorgement pressure. So I was looking through my freezer and found a bag of milk that is much darker than the others, it was from 4 days postpartum. Is it okay to give to him now? It would have to be mixed with other milk because it's not very much, but of course I didn't want to waste my liquid gold if I didn't have to!

My Mood:
Should be fine to give him. It might act like a laxative a bit but that effect would be not as strong when mixed with newer/fresh milk. Toddlers who tandem nurse end up getting colostrum when the baby comes and they do fine.

Re: Colustrum question...

Colostrum has a darker color. Mine was very yellowy. As long as it doesn't smell sour it should be fine.

Thanks so much! Never thought about the tandem nursers - mine were 3 1/2 years apart!

Re: Colustrum question...

It'll actually have higher levels of immune factors - really good stuff, especially coming into the fall (cold season - yuck!). It'll give his little immune system a nice boost!
