Favorite mattress protector? (for twin sized bed)

We just bought a big kid bed for my nearly 3 year old DS! we are in the midst of potty training (daytime)... not sure when the night training is going to happen, but we definitely need a mattress protector.

Any suggestions? I keep thinking of putting a wool blanket under the fitted sheet, but not sure if that would shift around too much, and how effective that would be against toddler night accidents (without diaper)...

What do you mamas like to use?

ETA: he's a super active sleeper, so we will be adding bumpers to the twin bed (this bed doesn't come with a bed rail). Needless to say, I'd need the whole mattress protected, and not just one spot.

I like wool, but we've never had an accident to test it. GMD sells puddle pads - http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/...htm#puddlecrib . We got ours from Organic Grace when we bought our DD a latex twin mattress. You might be able to lanolize your wool blanket and sew elastic straps on the corner to wrap around the bed. I would need the blanket to be super soft. I hate the idea of DD sleeping on anything plastic-y.

I use a zippered one that is vinyl on DS's bed. It's not too crunchy sounding or anything. Keeps everything protected! It's like this:

On the bottom I had 2 nice mattress protectors from one step ahead

Then on top of those I had a cheap plastic cover with a mattress pad over it (I didn't want them sleeping so close to plastic).

I bought a new mattress so I wanted to make sure to keep it safe
