I jinxed myself---Dr wants me to go dairy free.

Looks like I am hitting the grocery store this evening.

Aww Im with you!! Going on 6 months dairy free for baby right now!! Its SOOO hard to go without ice cream and pizza but its so worth it to see DS do so well.

We all have become very fond of almond milk and substitute it in everything i would have used milk in.

You know, its not the silk that bothers me, its the reading labels for hidden milk.

Dairy free for 2+ years for my DS. It's not that bad. After a month or so you pretty much know what has dairy and what doesn't and grocery shopping won't be a pain anymore.

Oh the irony I hope it is short lived, but if not there are a whole lot of mamas who have btdt. I suggest a month straight then decide if there is a difference. Good luck

Re: I jinxed myself---Dr wants me to go dairy free.

I have been dairy free for 14 months (DD is 20 months) due to her having dairy allergy. We have also been egg, nut and a million other foods free as well. I freaked out at first too and it is definitely hard to find all the hidden dairy in food but we are doing it. Good luck. I don't think I would have made it this far without this forum.

Re: I jinxed myself---Dr wants me to go dairy free.

I have been dairy free for 4 months now. At first I went all out and read labels.. then I tried a few foods that have dairy but not a lot and it didn't make a different with DD. So I don't eat cheese, milk, sour cream etc BUT I can have a little chocolate, crackers and granola bars. Every baby is different!

Re: I jinxed myself---Dr wants me to go dairy free.

I'm dairy free too and feel so grateful I went dairy free when I did for my son (3 mo). It took too long to figure out what was wrong with my daughter and I ended up switching her to soy formula because no matter what I cut out she wasn't healing. I agree that the hardest part is reading labels, but now I know what breads I can eat, and that the only buns I've found in my grocery stores that are dairy free are Franz. It really makes me sympathize for people with any dietary restrictions a lot more.

Re: I jinxed myself---Dr wants me to go dairy free.

Dairy free here for over 3 years (in addition to other foods as well). It gets easier. If you want baking and cooking tips, PM me. I have a lot of options, including one to make Jello Pudding that actually sets (hard to do with non dairy milk). Daiya Cheese is the best alternative cheese out there and the only completely dairy free option. It's pricey, but makes good pizza, casseroles, mac and cheese, etc. Also, if you want ice cream So Delicious has a coconut milk based ice cream that is so good. I'm a huge fan of Silk Coconut Milk!
