Do you spank?

This thread is not to debate whether or not its right. NO FLAMEING! No nasty business. You can give a short explanation if you wish but it should have no fingers pointed at anyone else.
I would just like to know how we are generally doing.

I don't spank. I don't think it's right to hit another person way, ESPECIALLY a child who is just learning about the world around them. IMO It's crazy to inflict pain on a child to teach them right from wrong

I was clear that I did not want people stating things that would offend another. Saying that you think it is "wrong", "crazy", is not being nice. I want personal feelings left out.
I will ask this thread to be deleted if this even starts to get nasty.

I am aware this is a controversial topic and that many feel strongly one way or the other but I want the facts not feelings.

I personally think that DNA can't make permissible something that would be assault in its absence.

In other words, if it is unacceptable for me to hit your kid it is unacceptable for you to hit your kid. I teach my kids hitting is wrong and never okay, even if you are bigger and related. I don't think age is something that can make you less a vicitm of assault. For instance, i am 34. If my father slapped me that would be assault. If i was 6 and he was 36 that could not change the nature of that action.

It is humilliating and painful to the body and psyche to be hit. It is also totally unnecessary.

Noone agrees that hitting animals is okay, but hitting kids is up for debate?

BTW, i appreciate that you just want 'facts' but frankly, a person can't have an opinion without taking a position that is inherently a judgment of the validity of either parenting approach. If you want more from people than "i disagree" you have to accept a person's reasons....and the reasons are never going to be devoid of emotion.

One can refrain for attaching, pointing fingers ETC. Both posts have been against and have clearly attached those who choose.

IF one wants to coment an appropriate coment would be....
" We have chosen not to spank based on our personal feelings" OR
"we have chosen to spank and feel this is best for our familiy"

You see? NO finger pointing.
You nor any other has any right to judge another person. Yet to often on here I see that once a person disagrees with something they start in with the personal attaches. No facts just emotion.
One more and this thread closes. It ridiculous that people cant controle them selves.

We have chosen to spank, but as a last resort. We've tried everything else that we could think of and in some situations, the only thing that works for our oldest child is a swat on the butt. Perhaps our youngest will respond to something different.

There is "correction", done deliberately, or the negative, "hitting", usually done in anger. One will get positive results, the other will get your kids taken away.

Those are facts, not opinions.

I think spanking has a place in raising a child, but it really depends on the child and the parent. Some children only respond to a spanking. Some never need it. I really think parents know best for their own children (mostly, this doesn't count abusive parents.)
We will spank our child if he needs it, but we have guidelines for it (ie if I'm angry I will not spank him)

Great point!

We use spanking for our almost four year old, when the offence is something very, very dangerous. Once I spanked him while angry (when I was pregnant, and he kicked me in the stomach, causing me to vomit, blech) and I deeply, deeply regret doing it. He was fine, but it still bothers me. Spanking shouldn't be something ever done when a parent is really, really angry.
