Outside of that, we only get stinky diapers in the pail after a day. It smells like wet fabric at diaper changes. I guess I could just try it out on my trainers? |

Re: Why tide?
Yup, don't mess with a good thing.. I added some of my regular clothes detergent thinking it might clean the ebf stains better and now my dipes smell like fish. DOH!!! I should have left well enough alone. Now I'm going to have to try and get rid of the fish smell.

I'd rather not deal with a complicated soak/vinegar/baking soda routine. I think I'll just rinse, pull out the covers, bleach, & wash the trainers!!!! Maybe I'll try Tide alone first to see if it helps on the trainers. I don't know! Another ? About Tide. I used to get it because it took out old stains. We moved to an area w/moderately hard water (vs hard) & it stopped getting stains out... Didn't clean well, either. I wonder whether or not it wasn't working due to all the minerals? Even here w/super hard water + a water softener, it wasn't as good, but we have less iron here I think. It would be nice to try it of only to simplify washing by not adding BacOut, however I will stick to the trainers only to see how that goes! |

Re: Why tide?
Well, I don't have problems with ammonia personally. Even when my 6-year-old dd uses cloth (she still wets at night -- and we usually use pullups just because they're easier for her to put on) I have not have problems with ammonia. So I'd say that depending on the amount of detergent you use, how often you wash, etc. you CAN avoid ammonia altogether.

Ok, so since my older DS (nighttime wetter) doesn't have sensitive skin, lol, I will try his trainers with Tide and see how it goes. Interestingly enough, I was reading how ultra detergents don't contain as many fillers and the fillers are what make the detergent more free-flowing, so question could you "fix" Tide ultra by pouring it into a huge container and adding Borax "the filler" to it? I'm not experimenting with this, but just a thought. Well, once I finish prepping the inserts to my trainers, I'll try to remember to come back to let everyone know how Tide is working. When we first moved, we had insanely hard water and I was afraid of how well the diapers would wash, so I added a small amount of Tide to the prewash then used Hard Rock. DS (sensitive skin one) had zero reactions to it, though I made sure to use a minimal amount and keep it in the pre-wash so it would rinse out well by the time the load was finished. I use BacOut in the prewash, too, for this reason. Poor guy! (He gets rashes in disposables, too, and he never had cloth rashes until this year, but gets them in BOTH types of diaper, poo rashes in both, wet rashes in disposable, so it's all his skin). It still would be nice to only use Tide!!!! |

Re: Why tide?
You could add a scoop of Borax to your load -- it'd work as a booster and help the detergent work even better.
