Re: Circ'ing a 4 month old - pros/cons?
Yeah, I was not impressed at all! I don't want to talk bad but it was really uncalled for! THE END.

OP-I would wait until he can have real pain relief and real anesthesia. Also, the thought of a surgical incision in a diaper really skeeves me out. I work in a hossy, and the amount of nasty germs that are out there is insane WITHOUT adding fecal matter. Just my

Re: Circ'ing a 4 month old - pros/cons?
I have both circ'd and intact boys. I would be uncomfortable only having him get local for the procedure at 4 months old. Like the one poster said not everyone takes it the same way and its hard to tell why they are screaming. other sedations ( not intibations) can have draw backs my step sisters 2 yr old was bit by a dog and they wanted to sedate him for sutures and he reacted badly and turned purple they had to intabate him.
Putting him completely under has its own draw backs but if your DH is serious about pushing the issue then wait till he is over 1 but before he is 2 and you start potty training. My nephew had hypospadias and had to me medically circ'd at 2.5 about 6 months after he potty trained and my sister wished she had done the surgery a year earlier. Good luck with your decissions. Hope it goes as uneventful as possible.

Re: Circ'ing a 4 month old - pros/cons?
My oldest is my only circd son (3 sons) and he had his done under general. I would never NOT have it done under general IMO if you must do it.

Re: Circ'ing a 4 month old - pros/cons?
Part of me thinks if you guys really truly want to do this, healing may be quicker now at 4 months. The child isn't as mobile yet and you can just let him lay on blankets so diapers/clothing aren't adding discomfort. Later though, your child could communicate his need for pain pills, food etc while recovering. I think that's a pretty big deal.
I'm pretty sure you guys have covered this, but if I am not mistaken, there are several religions out there whose views of circumcision have changed or been altered somewhat. If you guys haven't done so already and you really don't want to do this, I'd try talking to someone to see if circumcision is an actual requirement of your faith. DH and I were both brought up in families who circumcised and it was the "normal" thing for everyone we knew. Many touted religious belief but when all was said and done as we studied after (sadly it was after) our first son was circumcised, we realized there really wasn't anything saying we "had" to circumcise. I have one son circumcised and one not. The one who is not is a result of what happened to the one who was. I really never would have questioned it otherwise. It has been horrible and it has literally only been in the last few months that I can see my oldest son naked and not want to cry. I'm still ridden with guilt. He is now 5. I know soooooo many little boys nothing happened to. I can't begin to put into words what it feels like to be the mother of a son who has complications due to circumcision though. There actually are no words to express what it is like. If you really do not want to do this, I'd start checking to be sure that you actually have to in order to stay within the guidelines of your religion. I'm sorry you are in this tough spot with your wee guy

May I ask why you had to have it done with one of your sons? You can pm me if you'd rather. I sometimes worry about my 3 year old. He has never had any issues but I have a few people who keep telling me will end up having to have it done when he is older.

Re: Circ'ing a 4 month old - pros/cons?
Out of curiosity, was this something you suggested to him and he wanted to do...or did he think of it on his own? (Feel free to not answer if it's too personal!)
