Thank you soooo much!

I posted this in Thrifty Families too, but i thought i should post it here too:

I wanted to say thank you to each and everyone of you. I have looked and looked at all the "how to save money on food" posts and i have made a menu and i would like to say in the past we have gone and spent $100 for 1 week's worth and these days we just cant do that. So after making a menu and making a list--

we went to IGA, the bread store and Walmart and the grand total for 2, yes 2 weeks is............................

$80.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes, im not lying or kidding. Thanks to you all. I hope i can continue to gain from you all. Thanks again!

Jennifer

PS- sorry for any and all annoying questions i had.

i got most of our menu from the $5 menu foods post-- Thanks

Re: Thank you soooo much!

well what i did was here on this page i think, or maybe a page back i looked at the thread titled "$5 meal ideas" and we chose meals that we liked. DH gets paid every 2w, so we knew we needed about 2w worth, plus easy stuff (grilled cheese, etc) so i made a grocery list off of the menu and stuck to it. We went to the bread store, IGA, and walmart (just for the staples though) and thats what we did. We are feeding, DH, me (preggo), DD, and DS

for breakfest we got quick things from the breadstore, for lunch we got lunch meat to make sandwhiches and we used the menu for the dinners. We didnt by any extras or frozen meals (pizza, tv dinners, etc). We got Juice rather than pop (the frozen juices). We also got a huge thing of hamburger and then split it. When we went, we didnt look at sales this time, instead we went for cheapest price. If there were 2 kinds of cheese and one was off brand for 99 cents and the other was 1.99 for good brand, we went with 99 cent brand. We got the grocery list based off what it took to make each item.

heres our menu for the next 2 weeks:
Friday- we went out to eat spent 11.66
saturday- Salad night
sunday- Pork chops with box mashed taters and corn on the cob
monday- sloppy joes with box mac n chz
tuesday- breakfest
wednesday- Hobo stew with box cornbread
thursday- fend for yourself
friday- baked mac n chz (my grandmas recipe)

saturday- italian chicken with rolls (also has potatoes baked with chicken)
sunday- pizza bagels
monday- tacos
tuesday- chili
wednesday- pigs n a blanket
thursday- spaghetti with breadsticks
friday- TBA as its DH payday

some are from the 5 meal post and some are childhood things we had when i was little and we didnt have much money (pigs in a blanket, pizza bagels, etc)

i hope you can try it and see how it works for you
