Making crockpot yogurt. Any suggestions

Going to make crockpot yogurt for the first time. Any suggestions to get it really thick?

after it's done, line a colander with coffee filters or cheesecloth and strain out the whey.

I add about 3 tablespoons of dry(powdered) milk to the milk before heating it up.

I don't use the crockpot, because I hate crockpot cooking. I use this method, and I don't have to add powdered milk or strain the yogurt (although I do strain some to use in place of sour cream!). It turns out pretty thick. Get in straight into the fridge for a few hours before you eat it, and it will thicken a bit that way also.

But when I've made it on the stovetop, I found that powdered milk does help to thicken it nicely!

Re: Making crockpot yogurt. Any suggestions

thanks everyone it is on the list for tomorrow. I love my crockpot! I probabally cook in it 4+xs a week. I had heard such good reviews with this yogurt that I am just going to try it. We will see if my teens will eat it. They are pretty picky about their yogurt

This is pretty much how I do it.

I heat the milk to 185 in a double boiler then reduce to 110 and add cultures then place on top of a heating pad and wrap the bowl in a towel and let sit 7-8 hours. After the time I whisk it smooth then pour into containers and put into the back of the fridge overnight. By morning it is nice and thick. I either pour off the way or stir it in. Usually I stir it in.

I prefer a candy thermometer over a dial thermometer.

ETA: I LOVE my crockpots though.

Really, I can spell. It's my phone that can'tSent from my iPhone using DS Forum

Never tried the crock pot way, but I've heard a lot say it's runny. This is my method and it works awesome every time!
