Ugh now theres a blister on my nipple. And I think I might be getting a clogged duct or something cause theres a painful lump. Trying a cabbage leaf for that.
Thank you all for the tips! We're trying to do the pancake thing (lol) and I actually do have a sample of the motherlove cream I can try. I'm not good at pumping, it's just never worked out for me. It might be the pump I have is just not good or something cause it actually makes me sore. Oh and I've just tried cradle and football hold, I'll try the tummy one. That might be good cause the lump is at the bottom and I think I remember your supposed to point their chin towards the clogged duct? LadyB I agree! So cool that so many are BFing on here! it makes me so sad for babies that never get to nurse, they love it so much. We will succeed, I'm determined! This is my 3rd breastfed baby so there's no way I'm going to give up! I'm just a big whiny baby during these first few weeks. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using DS Forum

I had a clogged duct last week. I spent a lot of time laying on my side in a hot bath expressing milk. It did help. So did laying baby on my bed and leaning over him on hands and knees to breastfeed. It was challenging but it helped to drain the clog. Try to stay on it, a clogged duct can become mastitis quickly. I read somewhere that the cabbage leaves can reduce supply, idk if that is true or not though.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I think I'm gonna have dh get some nipple shields to try.
I have 2 cracks and a blister and it hurts so bad I end up crying everytime she latches on on the right side. I'm only going to try it on that side and see how it goes. Ive never used them before so I don't know. If I only use it on the right side and not everytime do you think it will cause problems? I'm hoping only to use them a few days to let it heal a little. I should just tough it out but everything is so rough right now with everybody trying to adjust I'm just not handling more pain on top of everything else well.Sent from my iPhone using DS Forum

Thank you mamas! Mmmarmalade, that makes me feel a lot better about it! I was so afraid I would ruin everything by using it and she'd start refusing to nurse or something!
Well dh got one at walgreens but all they had was a medium size one (medela contact shield) and it's way too big for her little mouth. She didn't seem to care, latched right on but it seemed like she was hardly getting any of my nipple in her mouth and wasn't getting much milk either. I was getting frustrated that nothing is working for us and she was falling asleep I think because she wasn't getting anything. So I unlatched her and took off the shield and latched her back on and magically no pain (or very little anyways)! I think that huge shield got her to open wider and get a deeper latch or maybe just softened my nipple up so it was easier to get a good latch? I don't know but I'm so relieved that there might be a solution! I hope it wasn't just a fluke! I'm gonna try it again this way...start out with the shield and then take it off after a minute or two and see if it works again! But I also ordered a small size one from diapers.com so it'll be here tomorrow just in case. Either way there is relief in sight so I feel much better! I've been so stressed the last couple days and had bad headaches and just feel such relief now that I might of found a solution. Sent from my iPhone using DS Forum

Re: So sore!
I am glad your getting the issues resolved, my baby had been doing great and now i am also cracked and bleeding. I am using a pump I got yesterday, her latching on hurts so bad and it is both sides.
I am using the medela cream and it doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Oh no Sally.
it is so hard. Now I'm engorged so bad that I'm getting flu like aches. And Matilda won't wake up to nurse. So I guess I'm gonna have to try pumping but I'm not good at it and the pump I have makes my nipples sore so I don't know what to do. Gonna have dh go pick up a hand pump and see if that will work. Ugh.I hope you can get something working for you guys. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using DS Forum

Re: So sore!
This! .....and lansinoh as well as Medela Soft Shells are what got us through that soreness. It was better by 7 days, even more better by 10 days and gone by 14 days.

Re: So sore!
Here are the soft shells....I swear they made the biggest difference. It kept my nipples from drying out which made latching hurt so much more. They also protected my nipples from my nursing bra or t-shirt. One more thing- they sort of made my otherwise flat nipples protrude more...you put your nipples through the center hole and then put your nursing bra over the whole shell (kind like you would with a nursing pad). Every time I took the shells off to nurse, my nipples were ready to go and easier for DS to latch onto. Babies R Us carries the shells or you can get overnight shipping via Amazon
