Tips for sleeping in crib
My LO is almost three weeks old... She has her day and nights horribly mixed up. Se sleeps beautifully all day long and is awake much of the night. We had her sleeping in a cradle in our room, but she sleeps terribly in it. Last night, we decided to put her in her crib. It helped a little. She will be sleeping soundly in our arms and as soon as we lay her down she wakes up. I have been making a point to lay her in her crib when she falls asleep today. I've also been making sure I wake her up every 2 hours to disturb her daytime sleep... I'll try and nurse her, change her diaper, etc.
Any other suggestions? I feel like I'm losing my mind... I have to go back to work in 3 weeks and have to figure out how to get her to sleep at night before then... Super stressed! |

Re: Tips for sleeping in crib
Start with small intervals - 5-10 minutes and lay her in there.
You may want to try a wedge if the angle is an issue. That helped us a lot (much to my surprise). Dex makes one you can put under the mattress. We'd also sometimes use the bouncy seat. It also helps to accept now you will never fully sleep again (yes, I know its not helpful) but at a few weeks or months, they are going to wake up several times a night.

Re: Tips for sleeping in crib
I am dealing with lack of wanting to sleep in the crib too, except my ds will be one next week. He had been in a pack n play before this. The only thing I can suggest is to be consistent. They will eventually learn that the crib is for sleeping.

I completely expect to wake up multiple times a night. Completely fine. It's the 3-5 hour stretches of her being wide awake in the middle of the night that is a problem. She usually is awake for one or two one- hour stretches and then a long 3-5 hour stretch. So, she's ( and I) is only sleeping 2 or 3 hours a night.

Re: Tips for sleeping in crib
I would keep night time interaction to a min. Fed, hold and thats about it. Leave it dark, no playing with, ect. During the day I'd leave the lights on, door open, no tyring to keep things quiet, ect. Over time she'll learn the difference b/t day and night.
I also found that my girls loved to be swaddled tight! and that helped keep them asleep when I put them down. DD2 also liked that 'closed in' feeling but maybe your LO doesnt since she doesnt like the cradle? Maybe try a wedge too? GL

And lots of laundry/dishwasher/etc running during the day.
Daytime noisy. Nighttime quiet.

My LO has trouble sleeping in her crib for naps but does great at night. I've tried very hard to keep things consistent. I've found keeping her wrapped tightly helps the transition from your arms to the bed. As to switching her days and nights, I agree with pp about keeping night interaction to a minimum and keeping them awake during the day for as long as you can. It might be a few loooong nights/days but it might help things get figured out.
Good luck momma and hang in there. You'll get it figured out, in the mean time don't forget to get all the snuggles you can with that little one
