Smoke smell. Ick.

I just received 2 sunbaby dipes that I won on ebay - very cheap and the dipes are in VERY good shape. HOWEVER, they reek of cigarette smoke. I washed them once and they still smell. They are in the wash again now, but does anyone have any suggestions?

My sister in law had that problem once and she had to wash them in high fragrance soap and then strip them to get rid of the smell.

Can you air them outside? Idk if it will ever go away totally...the house we are in now once belonged to smokers and I swear when we are gone for a few days and come back that I can smell it faintly!

I started striping every diaper we get in the mail because of 2 ammonia ridden packages we got. Works for me. You could also try vinegar.

baking soda? Not sure but it seems like it would work. Or borax maybe. What a pain!

I had to do this and then hang them on the line

Yeah, baking soda is good for getting rid of odors, I would try that and hang outside to dry if possible.

My house reeked of smoke when we moved in too, we didn't realize when we looked @ it because I guess they had the windows open when we were here. We had remove all wall-to-wall carpets and wash all the walls 3 times before we painted. So gross. I developed asthma after I moved in here, which is weird because my mom is a smoker.

Vinegar is great at getting out odors. I would try that.

I'm all for trying natural options first, but if that fails then pick up a bottle of Tide Sport with Febreeze.

My husband spends 2 hours every night at the gym, and his laundry is RANK. We use homemade detergent for everything else, but his gym clothes just don't come out smelling clean unless I use the Tide Sport with Febreeze.

My mother's a heavy smoker, and when she makes blankets for us the smell comes out with homemade detergent, but everything she gives us is usually cotton. I'm assuming it's the synthetics in the diapers that are holding on the odor, which is what Tide Sport is designed for. All of DH's synthetics come out smelling fresh with it!

Look for Sport Wash or Pro Wash. Hunters use it because it removes ALL scent from clothing.
