Critique my wash routine please! Newbie here!
Ok, I am 7 weeks into cloth diapering newborn twin boys!
My current stash consists of prefolds, pockets (mostly FB right now, and a few other randoms) and a handful of BG newborn AIO's. I am building my stash up slowly!! I can diaper them for almost 2 days, daytime only before washing. I have a Fridgedaire front loading HE washing machine. This is what I do: 1. Quick wash cycle on cold, no detergent. 2. Heavy duty wash cycle, heavy soil setting, hot/cold, extra rinse with regular HE powder tide, using the tide scooper filled up to the #2, and one tablespoon of oxyclean. 3. only the inserts and prefolds in the dryer, hang the shells. When the weather gets nice, I will line dry all outside. The diapers look clean, smell pretty good, but there is a very FAINT odor to them (maybe ammonia???). Oh - and I store my dirty ones in a plain laundry basket I use for dipes only, so there is plenty of air going around them. I don't notice a smell at all, though my boys are EBF. I bought a Blueberry wetbag second hand, tried it once and it leaked all over so I gave up on that. What can I add or subtract to my routine to get the smell out? I tried Rockin Green initially, and the dipes did not seem to get clean. Budget is an issue, so I can't really justify buying more expensive detergents. Advice, suggestions are welcolmed!!
