Travel potties?
My son rarely goes to the bathroom when we are out and since he's been choosing big boy underpants, he has pretty much refused to go while out in public, even though I've taken him when he was younger. Anyone here use travel potties, like Potette? I saw one in the store the other day, but thought that the splash guard might not be a little insufficient for a boy. I'm not really a fan of bags b/c of the waste they generate, but we are gearing up for a 8.5 hour car ride for the Easter holiday and I'm a little weary about undies in the car on this one...
Suggestions, anecdotes, examples welcome! Thanks!

Subbing because I want to know too
![]() We've been just doing 'pee on the tire' with our recently PLed DS, but a travel potty might be a better idea!

Re: Travel potties?
I LOVE our pottlet or whatever it is called. I love how I can have it all set up and shove it under a seat in the van and when he needs to go, there it is! It was perfect when I never knew when he needed to do his business. Yes it generates waste. And that isn't good, but really how often are you really going to need it? For me it is more of when you HAVE to have it, it is there. It is also great when you travel other ways. Oh and I have a boy and you have to point that thing south regardless of what seat you have so it is no different.

Re: Travel potties?
I've been having trouble w/ DD lately not wanting to use big potties at home, other ppl's homes or in stores. She did fine at first, now she won't go out of the house unless I bring her baby bjorn smart potty.
I bought a potette at TRU and she won't use it either. So, I just ordered another smart potty for the car. It was about the same price as the portable potty, and I just make sure she uses it in a place where I can dump it in grass, then I wipe it out w/ a baby wipe. We took her potty on vacation last summer (about 6 hour trip, we made some stops along the way) and she would say she had to potty just to get out of her carseat. Then, on the way home, she said she had to go and DH was tired of stopping for no reason and she went in her carseat. So, be prepared for that.

Re: Travel potties?
I have the Potette Plus and so far am liking it quite a bit! Very versatile since it is both a potty and potty insert. Haven't done this yet, but I am planning to use a DIY pattern to make a reusable "wet bag" for it. Then I can just throw in a prefold to catch pees and wash it all when we get home.
Pattern is at: doityourselfec.blogspot |

Re: Travel potties?
We used the potette with DD1, and it was great. We never used a bag for it...we always just dug a little hole and then buried her pee. We did the same for poo but dug a deep hole. Keep in mind we live in the middle of nowhere and when we go on road trips, it's the middle of nowhere places that we need to use the potty. I'm not going to have her do that on the side of the Garden State Parkway (I'm from NJ).
I was nervous about taking DD1 on long car trips right after she was out of diapers, but we only had 1 accident and that's because I completely forgot to have her go before we left and then she fell asleep in the car. We took her on a cross country drive soon after she was in undies, and we had no issues. We used the potette a lot!
