Diaper Swappers

Last year I considered opening a small WAHM business selling cloth pads but it was put to the side when my schedule became hectic. With a new baby on the way I've been sewing more and have come back to the idea of making and selling cloth pads. This would be a small hobby business and I have no grand illusions that I will be making a ton of money off it.

I'd really love the creative outlet and making a little extra on the side would be fun as well.

I marble and LWI dye my own bamboo and cotton velour, and have designed a few patterns that I have used and friends have used with success. Of course everyone loves testers at a reduced rate, I know I do, but do you all think there is truly room for this? I know it appears every day a new WAHM shop opens. Are cloth pads an oversaturated market?

What do you look for in a pad?

Do you prefer turned and topstitched over serged?

Tab wings or full wings - or the option of either or?

Inside soaker layer, zorb or a more natural material like bamboo?

I am open to any and all honest yet tactful advice and thoughts.

well, I love obv pads, so I'm not sure if the market is over saturated, it's worth a shot!

I prefer full wings to tabs, to prevent any leaking onto the panties. I don't mind serged or tt, depends on the style. I prefer ones with a top soaker part and then the wings are on a separate piece of fabric, if that makes sense. I guess I prefer natural inside, but perhaps you could make them options.

I think mine are all tabbed wings, and I really like them. Natural fabrics are a must for me for next to the skin. I have both zorb and flannel absorbent layer pads, and both work equally well. Serged edges are find with me. I would worry about adding bulk with turned and topstitched.

I'm still open to more opinions and will decide whether or not to do testers at the end of the week.

You already know my opinion on the subject

I think you should take the chance. With your talent, you need to put it to use. And if you don't do it, you'll always have the thought in your mind. Even if you try and it doesn't turn out as successful as you think (which I'm more than sure it will) then at least you tried.
