Grr...smoke detectors!

So I'm pretty used to waking up at least 4 times a night, but luckily I can fall back asleep quickly most of the time. So while I'm tired, it's not that bad. But last night/this morning, the smoke detector low battery beep started at about 3AM!!!! It beeped about ever 3 minutes, and was ridiculously loud. So I couldn't fall back asleep, but to get to our smoke detector requires a ladder and moving some stuff, so I wasn't going to fix it. Around 4:30 my husband woke up and we managed to change the battery, but both of us get up around 5:30, so needless to say, I'm already exhausted and I have to work today! All I have to say is that whoever designed them to beep that often was feeling vindictive. Why not start beeping once an hour and then as the battery gets lower start more frequently???

Thanks for listening, I'm just tired =(

Sorry mama! I had a similar night, we had wind storms here so it was extreamly loud and I swear my entire house was swaying and creaking... okay, so maybe it wasn't swaying but it kinda felt that way! Then about an hour before my DH gets up the power went out. I HAVE to sleep with a fan on, so when that thing turned off I was wide awake and could hear every single little sound in the house UGH!- I think there must have been an accident down the street because then there was a helicopter flying over our heads for a looooong time, and sirens going off down the street. UGGGGHHH! By the time it all stopped my DHs alarm went off and he was up moving around. I just want to go back to bed!!!!

Re: Grr...smoke detectors!

What in the heck??? Ours did this Saturday night/Sunday morning too. We had out of town guests, and it stressed them out and they got up and took the battery out. I could have slept through it, but it was much closer to their room than ours. :-P

I can't figure out why the smoke detector even uses batteries. It is hardwired into the house, so I figure the battery should be a back up. Grrr!
