One more question re newborn diapers

then I promise to shut up for awhile

I have newborns that fit to 12 pounds.

And then I have one size.

Do I still need smalls, or will those work one after the other?

Re: One more question re newborn diapers

It probably depends on which dipes they are, but in most cases, no, you should be able to go straight from NB to OS. For reference, we had XS FBs and BGs for DD, and both fit easily until about 12 lbs. But DD had started fitting into her BG organics (before Elementals) and BG 3.0s at about 9 lbs. I've heard the 4.0s don't fit quite as early, but my guess is they'll still fit by around 12 lbs. But, for example, MEOS don't really fit well until about 14 lbs, so there you'd have a brief gap where you'd need something to get you from NB to OS.

Re: One more question re newborn diapers

it will depend on what NB diapers you have, they may say they will fit until 12lbs but will the absorbancy allow you to use them untill that weight? and it will also depend on what OS you have, BG 4.0 (in my experience) did not start fiting untill around 13lbs, but our RAR started fitting at 10lbs.

but if you have a pretty absorbant NB diaper, and a rather small fitting OS you will be fine.

Re: One more question re newborn diapers

It really depends on the build of the baby.
For dd, that did not work. She had very skinny legs and was very petite in general and OS diapers never fit her well until she was almost a year old and on the upper end of the weight range for the small setting. With ds, he fit into OS diapers pretty quickly, it was not a problem.
Sunbaby's were one diaper that DID fit dd though, when other OS diapers did not. They are a very trim cut. I had what are now called size 1.
Also, prefolds and covers are more versatile in fit; you can always fold down a rise and customize the fit. I used a lot more prefolds on dd her first year than I really liked; I would have preferred to just use pockets on her but we always had big leg gaps.
