Mommas that use a diaper sprayer...

Do you find that you still need to do a cold prewash? I'm trying to cut back water usage as my bill was very high last month. I have a old school top loader. Currently, I do a cold prewash with a bit of tide, a long hot heavyduty wash with tide to line 2, than another warm wash with nothing, so diapers rince well. I think my water is moderately hard.

I have a diaper sprayer, but my DS is still fairly new. I only do a cold pre rinse, a hot wash, followed by 2 hot rinses.

I would still do a prewash if I were you. To get some of the pee rinsed out so your diapers get cleaner during the regular wash cycle if that makes sense.

ETA By prewash I meant a rinse cycle that uses less water than a regular cycle

Yes, I would say still do a prewash (soak), then hot wash with soap, extra rinse.

Admittedly, I haven't washed a load of diapers in 6 months, but yes, I wouldn't skip the prewash unless you're only using flats. Everything else genuinely needs all that water to get it all the way clean.

I always have, but I only sprayed poopies. Maybe if you rinsed all diapers pretty well you could get away without it, but I am not sure that would use less water than a rinse in the washer. I have heard of using a wetpail and not pre-rinsing, but there are lots of cons to wetpails!
