Plain water wipe solution
I have always just used plain water for my cloth wipes. When I was in my local cloth diaper store yesterday the store clerk said that plain water is too irritating. Something about too many plain water wipes making their butts raw. Is this true?

Re: Plain water wipe solution
I have never heard such a thing. OUrdoctors recommend that. I think its a ploy to sell product.
That said, I personally find a tiny oil to make wiping much smoother and babys bum easier to clean. |

Re: Plain water wipe solution
I always used just distilled water with our cloth wipes. In fact, the only time we had any kind of rashy with either of my boys was the brief time I used a premade wipes solution. If water is working for you there is no reason to switch.
Plain water might contribute to rawness - there isn't any kind of emollient (like the stuff that makes lotions go on smoothly) so if your wipe material was very rough or if you were wiping a lot or very vigorously it would probably irritate baby's skin. But then, the same would be true with almost anything you used.

I wonder if I could use coconut oil in my water? If I use warm water when I make it the oil should just melt in...

I haven't used coconut oil yet, but I would think it would separate from the water and harden up after it cooled off?

I use plain water, my mother always used plain water! If he gets rashy, I use coconut oil.

Re: Plain water wipe solution
If you mix it in quick and put it directly on the wipes it will work. Or shake it in your spray bottle...however you do yours. I agree that oil helps clean up better, but if plain water is working for you, why not??
