Sunscreen Safety?

Hi Ladies! We are having freakishly warm weather here and my DS loves being outside. However, I have really fair/sensitive skin and have always used sun screen on a daily basis. I haven't used any since getting pregnant because I wasn't sure what the guidelines were. My appt isn't until the end of next week so I was wondering if anyone else had checked with their drs (or just know) already?

Is sunscreen safe to use in pregnancy? Is there a certain type that is better then others?

Thanks!!!

Re: Sunscreen Safety?

Definitely avoid those with any retina a, retinol, etc! Makes me so angry that they have been putting those ingredients in sunscreen all these years that age skin with sun exposure! grrr

I will go look for the list of sunscreens that are better..... I was reading one the other day.....

Re: Sunscreen Safety?

You are also better off avoiding the sprays (especially the uber popular pressurized cans) because the ingredients really really should not be inhaled.

Re: Sunscreen Safety?

Here is a website too that lists sunscreens and lets you know what is safest by a rating.
http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/browse/s...en:+SPF+15-30/

We use Purple Prairie Botanicals and love it, they have a very low rating on the site which is good - you want low. They use all natural ingredients and we used it last year while we were at Disney and no one came home with a sunburn.

Re: Sunscreen Safety?

Perfect! Thanks ladies I already make sure we use one with a low rating (and no sprays). I'll have to check out the one you mentioned Christina since the 'safe' screen I used last year still left me burnt most of the time. Thanks!

Re: Sunscreen Safety?

I didn't look at the lists the others provided, but we use Loving Naturals, which is made with ingrediants you can pronounce and have heard of. The only drawback (which I don't care about at all) is that you look 'chalky' for a while unless you are able to really rub it in.
