Drinking my own breastmilk

I went to the ER last night with what turns out to be some kind of digestive tract infection. On my Ddc we were discussing drinking my own milk and I was wondering, would I be immune to all the illness fighting goodness in my milk since I am the one who produced it? Are these things I already have in my body, or are they specific to breastmilk?

The immunities in breastmilk are you your current immunities. I don't see how it would be beneficial to drink your own. It does have antibacterial properties, so I guess if you have a bacterial infection in your GI tract it might help, but I don't know how good it would be. I would probably start taking probiotics personally. You want good bacteria in there

I suggest trying herbs, there are MANY that will help this issue. I don't think your breastmilk will clear your GI issues. Maybe an ear infection, but no GI.

You wouldn't be "immune" to the antibodies in your own breastmilk. The milk concentrates antibodies already circulating in your bloodstream, so if anything you'd just be delivering a concentrated dose to your digestive track if you drank it. Your body does a pretty good job of keeping digestive bacteria separated from the rest of your body (otherwise you'd quickly become septic) so if you want to affect those bacteria, you have to get the treatment into the GI tract.

There's no harm in drinking your own milk. I've done it just because I couldn't bear to pour it down the sink. I was on an overnight trip and had no way to take it home with me. It tasted like melted vanilla ice cream - now I totally get why babies like it.
