AGhhhhh...and this kid KNOWS better!

I don't get it, I don't GET IT????!!!! (This is more of a vent, just gotta get it out.)

DS is 28 months. He has been doing GREAT with going to the potty during the day, but is not nap or night trained just yet. We went through a regression period a few weeks ago, but managed to get back on track.

Ok, just this past weekend we did a family trip with a 4 hour drive on each end, two days in an amusement park, late nights, crazy schedule, etc, etc and he did not have one single accident!!! He told us when he had to go, and held it when I had to hunt over the park to find a restroom. When he fell asleep in the stroller, he woke up dry. When he fell asleep in the car today for 2+ hours, he woke up dry!!! DH and I praised him all weekend long for a being a big boy, staying dry and telling us when he had to go.

We get home today from our trip and head out to church. He had an accident while he was in the nursery. He had an accident when we got home. Then after we talked to him about telling us when he has to go and keeping his underwear dry he pooped in his underwear.

What gives?!!!

What is different about being home? I just don't get it. He can physically pull down his pants and underwear and sit on the floor potty himself. He has done it plenty of times before and then calls us to come help him get cleaned up. But today one of his accidents happened in the same room as the potty. This is so bizarre to me. UGH!!!!

Ahhhh, these things happen. Kids progress, then regress. My 4 year old has been PTed for two years and still has the odd accident. Sometimes they get busy playing and just forget, or wait too long because they don't want to stop what they're doing. Just stick with it and expect that these things will happen sometimes :-)

DS (29 months) did something similar a few weeks ago; dry for everything (even night, although he's in a pullup) for a week, then all of a sudden every single pee was an accident (fortunately for us he pooped on the potty, but he's been poop trained for a few months longer).

He's probably just tired from the trip and needs a bit to get back into his schedule. I'd agree with the PP and say just give it a few days and praise for dryness. For DS I basically just started the 3-day methods again and he was dry again in no time.

Re: AGhhhhh...and this kid KNOWS better!

I have a son a little bit older... and he just doesn't think about it, even though he knows better too! It is frustrating.
Probably though, he's just out of sync from the trip... it happens all the time with kids. Any big upset in their lives, or big change in schedule, often comes out in physical behavior or "regression" in some area in which they were previously doing well. Just be patient and consistent.
