DD (8 mos) fell off a chair.

She fell off a chair at McD's and did a sideways head over heels onto the tile floor. She's nursing now (10 min later) after getting home. Is there anything other than different pupil dilation that I should keep my eyes on? She seems ok right now. I just want to keep my eyes on her.

I'd do a search for signs of concussion. The ones I know of are puking and sleepiness.

Eta: Hope she's ok!

I've also heard of throwing up and sleepiness.

I second what the others have said - lethargy, pupil changes, vomiting, any other major changes. If I were you, I would call your pediatrician's clinic. There is usually an after hours nurse that will call you back. Let him/her know what happened and see what they think you should do. You can never been too careful when it comes to head injuries - especially in an infant.

I've been told, as a general rule, to get checked out by a Dr if the fall distance is greater than her height. I would bet that it wasn't, just from a chair, so I'd just keep a watchful eye on her.

When my dd was 9 months, she fell down a flight of twelve wooden steps. We rushed her to the ER and she was fine. They first looked for dilation, puking and sleepiness. Because of how far she fell, they also did a ct scan.

Thanks everyone. Other than it being bed time, she was acting like her normal self with a slight bump on her head to which I applied some Hylands bumps and bruises ointment. I think she's fine. DH was freaking out... She screamed instantly, and had no signs of it being anything serious (other than scaring us).

Re: DD (8 mos) fell off a chair.

Screaming instantly is a good sign!
I had a major freak out when my daughter (8 mo old at the time) fell down an entire flight of stairs. I saw her fall and it was awful! It replays in your mind for a long time
Anyway, I called the on call physician right away and they didn't even have me bring her in. We reviewed the signs of head injury and just watched her for a few days. He told me that he generally doesn't worry unless the child fell from a high distance (like greater than 3 feet) onto a very hard surface.....or if the child is showing obvious signs of injury (sleepiness, extreme fussiness, delayed pupil reaction, loss of balance, vomiting, etc).
