Dip in supply

I've gotten my first period since having my baby - She is 4 months old. I used to be able to pump 3 ounces when I pumped. Now I barely register 1! Is this normal? Does my supply go back up after my period ends? It's bad enough I don't make much to begin with! I don't want to stop now!

Actually your dip in supply is very normal and may only last 2-3 days. My ds made up for it by nursing a little more frequently. The dip in supply only happened maybe the first few monthlies I got...after that I didn't notice any change

Re: Dip in supply

I noticed it and sometimes it was really bad! I started taking a calcium supplement and it helps. Also, psyllium husk (the main ingredient in Metamucil) helped too. Strange, but true.

Re: Dip in supply

I had a dip in supply with every period I had while breastfeeding. Magnesium/Calcium supplements helped me. That said, there was still a dip in supply that resulted in just a little more nursing for 2-3 days each month.
