Re: Anyone know what to do with hotdogs?

I haven't read all the replies, hopefully this isn't a repeat.

Chicago dog salad, from Rachel Ray

1/4 c yellow mustard
2 tbsp vinegar
1 tsp sugar
4 tbsp veggie oil
1 sm red onion, thinly sliced
8 oz shredded cabbage blend
1 romaine lettuce heart, shredded
2 vine ripe tomatoes
3 lg half sour or garlic pickles, chopped
salt and pepper
8 hot dogs, cut on an angle into 1" thick slices

In the bottom of a large bowl, combine the mustard, vinegar, sugar and about 3 tbsp of the oil. Add the onions, cabbage, romaine, tomatoes and pickles and toss the salad, season with salt and pepper, adjust the seasonings and reserve.

Heat a large nonstick skillet over med-high. Add the remaining tbsp of oil, then arrange the sliced dogs in a single layer. Sear them for a couple min on each side.

Mound up the salad on plates and top w/ the seared dogs and serve.

This is on deck for us this week!

Re: Anyone know what to do with hotdogs?

you guys are awesome! We finally used the last package of hot dogs last night (cut them up, fried them and mixed with mac and cheese...) BUT we still have TONS Of those funky sausages. I have figured out if I peal them I can tolerate them lol. I have made speg. with them (pealed them and choped up some and crumbled up the others) it was alright but... lol.

One receipe we make that I got off of here that my entire Family LOVES is this one: take a piece of bread, put a piece of cheese in it lay the hot dog (also Great with sausage!) diagnal and then roll the bread around it sucureing with toothpicks. Butter the bread then place in oven. Oh the bread gets nice and toasted.. sooo yummy!!

Re: Anyone know what to do with hotdogs?

Have you tried frying the sausage w/ potatoes and onions. I have recipe from the Sopranos cookbook for cooking italian sausages, maybe you could do that w/ what you have. Here is the basics of the recipe.

Cut up 1 lb potatoes
1 green pepper
1 red onion into wedges
(all these should be kind of big bites, KWIM)
Put in a 9X13 pan
Top w/ olive oil (reg oil is probably ok too) to coat
and season w/ salt and pepper

Bake at 450 for 45 min, make sure you stir them a couple of times so they don't stick or burn. Then lay sausages on top and cook additional 20-30 minutes.

I couldn't see the pic of the sausages, but if they are precooked you may just have to cook them 10-15 min to heat.

this is really good w/ Italian sausages and brats so I hope it will work with what you have. And I bet you could do this on the stove top if you don't want to heat your house up with the oven.
