Is anyone doing Live Below the Line next month?
I found out about it through my Mom & Bzzagent (my mom got an invite through Bzzagent & told me about it, then I got one a day or two later).
Basically, the idea is to bring attention to the challenge of living in poverty. You spend 5 days eating for $1.50/day per person, which is the amount an average person living in poverty has to spend on EVERYTHING. My mom feels that she & my dad can do it. I KNOW that I can do it (I challenge myself all of the time to spend as little as possible). My 17 yr old son is certain that we can NOT! LOL! it will be very educational for our family to do this challenge in this light. Here is a link to the challenge: https://www.livebelowtheline.com/ (P.S. - if you didn't know about the challenge & decide to sign up, please choose Bzzagent as your network from the drop down menu on the sign-up page. I dont get anything for it, I would just like Bzzagent to get credit since it was through them that I found out/signed up! Thanks! )

Interesting! I'm sure we could nearly qualify as poverty though...at last it feels like it lately. Would definitely be an eye opener.

I couldn't. If my child buys lunch at school its 1.25 and if I pack a lunch I'm sure it would be close to that as well and so then we'd starve for the rest of the day. LOL

Good point. I think IF we were all home for all 5 days then maybe but thats just not practical. I actually average about $15 day for everyone.

Re: Is anyone doing Live Below the Line next month?
One of the hardest rules is you have to figure on buying new whole packages. I KNOW I could eat far better on the same $ by stockpiling deals and buying bulk. But I realize many in extreme poverty can't seem to figure out how to front the cash to start stockpiling. If you have a team/group you can purchase items together but you can't have some members go over their 1.50 worth.
I think I could do it but at the end of 5 days I'd be glad to be done! I don't think dh would want to play along though.

Re: Is anyone doing Live Below the Line next month?
Yeah, other than dh, we are all home all day, every week day. I also have 6 children, which ups my grocery $! LOL! I do think that after 5 days we will all be thrilled to go out & buy whatever we want!
I started making a list of what I thought we would eat & it had rice, oatmeal & lentils - all very prominent on their cookbook for the challenge! LOL! edited to add: actually, only 5 of my children will count, my oldest is working out of state. She loves a good challenge, though & was bummed out she couldn't do this with us- she said she knows that we can do it,no problem.

Re: Is anyone doing Live Below the Line next month?
My only question is about free lunch. Most of the kids in our area that live below poverty level get free breakfast and lunch at school. This means that the $1.50 would only need to cover dinner and snacks. I could do that. I could also do it for myself $1.50 for all meals (dh would be harder but maybe he would lose weight).

Re: Is anyone doing Live Below the Line next month?
I haven't checked out the website yet, but my question is? If I lived below poverty level I'd be recieving food stamps(and wic) and those equal substantially more than 1.50 per person per day so is this assuming you are living below poverty level and not receiving any kind of assistance?
