BLW When Parents Don't Eat Healthy
My DD is only 3 months old so I still have some time, but I have been doing some reading and I'm interested in practicing BLW with DD when the time comes. The only problem is that both DH and I are guilty of not eating the best foods
I must admit with DS who is now six I always fed him seperate food from ours because he only ate healthy food. When I feed my son, I try to incorporate all the foods from to pyramid, but I am pretty negligent when it comes to my own nutrition. I am pretty healthy and active, but usually I tend to skip meals and eat processed foods. I know I should just suck it up and start eating healthier, but I'm just wondering what others have done. I definitely don't want to feed DD the junk I eat, but I would love to do BLW. Advice please.

We never ate terribly, but our eating habits definitely improved after having DD. You have some time, so just start slow. Add some fresh veggies to whatever processed food you're eating...baby steps

Re: BLW When Parents Don't Eat Healthy
yep...what she said
![]() but keep in mind that when you start, the baby won't eat much. you could roast some broccoli or carrots in the oven and that would be totally fine for a meal.

Re: BLW When Parents Don't Eat Healthy
We started eating better. I cook a lot more now and I'm very conscious of processed foods being available. All in moderation.
We also had to start eating at the kitchen table, which we had not really done in 5 yrs of being married. Because I believe that dining is both a social and a nutritional experience. I think you damage your children in the long run if you eat separate things from them. They will think that what you are eating is better because you are choosing it. It's like telling a kid that they have to eat their broccoli to get some dessert.. you're just teaching them that broccoli is an obstacle to the good stuff they really want. anyways.. we eat better now. Technically, I guess I started eating better while I was pregnant. but same idea - it was concern for the baby that fixed my diet.

Re: BLW When Parents Don't Eat Healthy
Start slow and eat better.
In the beginning your baby will likely eat only 1-2 bites of some vegetable. So for now, start by incorporating a healthy vegetable into every meal. Then add in something else (cooked brown rice instead of instant or something boxed). Doing a drastic diet change ALWAYS fails in the long run. Making healthy food a habit however will follow you and your children forever.

I would just try to start eating healthier. You start making separate meals for the baby now and you'll be doing it when she gets bigger too.You want to model good eating so might as well start now. Little by little or you could just go all out and get rid of all your junk and start fresh.

Re: BLW When Parents Don't Eat Healthy
Well we have some food allergies in our family so we do BLW but not as in they just eat whatever is on the plate. I am just going through things one at a time for a few days so I do things like bananas, avocados, green beans, sweet potatoes, etc etc. So I am not necessarily eating the same as the baby right now but once she gets through all of the things she will start eating what the rest of the family eats. I am the only one who REALLY needs to change my eating habits BUT I get away with eating different stuff without the kids batting an eye because I am the only vegetarian. I need to work on it for my own health though.

Re: BLW When Parents Don't Eat Healthy
I don't think you have to be perfect, but eat better. Your six year old will eventually pick up on your habits anyway...so, it's best to try to put into practice for yourself what you do for you son.
It takes a while to retrain yourself to eat healthier, especially when you are tired or stressed. It's so much easier to grab the Cheezits than it is to cut up celery.

Re: BLW When Parents Don't Eat Healthy
I buy a few things just for him, and I am trying to eat better myself. It's hard on a tight budget, though. :/
