Would you relocate for your spouse?
Two scenarios:
Scenario A) You have a good job that you love. Your spouse has been going back to school PT for years and has been working part-time jobs. Finally, after graduating, your spouse gets their DREAM JOB. Quite literally, their dream job. However, this job is located 3-5 hours away from your home. You also have young children, elementary aged and down. Scenario B) Your spouse is the primary worker, you stay at home. Unexpectedly, your spouse loses their job. After months of unemployment, your spouse gets a job offer across the country. Your kids are older, high-school and middle-school aged, so they have their own lives, friends, and are involved in sports and activities. What you would do? Relocate? What would be some determining factors in each scenario?

Re: Would you relocate for your spouse?
In both cases, we would relocate. Kids are resilient and will adjust, no matter the age. We love our kids and want what is best for them but we can't make decisions based on their friends and activities. Jobs and finances are a priority.

Re: Would you relocate for your spouse?
Relocate, though in scenario B I would be hesitant because my mother did that to me.

Re: Would you relocate for your spouse?
relocated twice and getting ready to do it again! Hopefully this is the LAST time. All for jobs for dh. First was "dream job" opportunity and he left a job he hated. That sadly didn't work out because the dream job company went bankrupt 3 years later. So we returned to the job he hated. He stuck it out for another 3 years and just started a new job 7 weeks ago. So we are moving again. It's been hard. Change is always hard. And he always goes ahead while we finish the school year/sell the house/etc. So single parenting is the HARDEST. However we have no regrets and it's always worked out.

Re: Would you relocate for your spouse?
You pretty much described my life growing up.
The only catch about situation A is the finances involved. If DH's "DREAM" job only pays like $15k a year...nope, not moving for a paycut. My DH just graduated college in December. He got a job that is really a great career move, just started it a few weeks ago. The only catch is it's an hour commute. We probably WILL move, but we are holding off specifically because DD1 is only 2 hrs from graduating high school. He also specifically did not look across the country to avoid moving her out of her school. Had he gone months with NO job (he had a job already, it just wasn't as good) he would have started looking nationally. I grew up following the job and the money. That's how it works for us.

Re: Would you relocate for your spouse?
Absolutely yes. But I grew up in a military family and moved all the time. So did my husband. Even though we aren't military ourselves, we still move quite often. I can't wrap my mind around the idea of being stuck in one place and refusing to move.

Relocate. You've got to go where the work is. But I grew up in the Air Force so it's not such a big deal to me.

Re: Would you relocate for your spouse?
Relocate. But, then again, we relocate every 2-3 years for DH's job because we're military so I'm probably no help!
