Re: Micropreemie Twins!
I didn't read all of the posts, but 1 cool gift someone brought us was a disposable camera WITH FLASH for each baby. They can be left at the baby's isolette with instructions for the nurses to take pics of the babies when the parents aren't there. It was fun getting them developed and seeing cute things they did when we weren't there.

Everyone's given you great ideas so far. I can honestly say, just being there will be a huge help! We were a 14 hour drive away from home while our LOs were in the nicu. I have never felt so isolated- no cell phone use in the nicu, and I hated to leave because I knew they needed me there. My mom was able to fly down for a weekend and that helped me get through the remaining weeks. And I second the gift card for the hospital coffee shop- it gave me an excuse to get up and walk around, but I didn't have to leave the hospital. As the weeks wear on, be just as excited to hear about their progress as you are now. Your support will help her through a very scary time.

Re: Micropreemie Twins!
She ended up getting overwhelmed with paperwork (all of the insurance/SSI/disability/maternity leave stuff) so we canceled our visit.
I was bummed not to see her, but I totally understood. However the babies are doing awesome! They graduated to CPAP. The boys are also both only on room air and their O stats are perfect! The boys are doing so much better than the doctors expected since there was no time for the steroids to work. My friend and her DH have already gotten to help change diapers, and blankets, and take temperatures- they are beyond elated.

Re: Micropreemie Twins!
Something that might be helpful is a water bottle that cant be spilled. When my YDS was inthe NICU I could have water at his bed side but it had to be in a spill proof container. A camelbak bottle (target has both stainless steel and plastic ones in the sporting goods section) works perfect for this purpose. It was so much easier for me to keep hydrated while in the NICU with YDS or while pumping id I had something I could keep right next to me.

Re: Micropreemie Twins!
My dd was born at 28 weeks and stayed for 90 days.
We were so blessed by so many people. One time someone went grocery shopping and bought a few weeks worth of food so that we didn't have to worry about shopping while spending ALL of our time at the NICU. We had to pay for parking for the first 30 days so people gave money towards our parking bill. We were given gift cards and money. A christmas ornament that was a tiny angel with Maygen's name engraved.
