Loosing Weight and Breastfeeding
Hi Mamas! I need some thoughts/encouragment. Im currently breastfeeding my 5 month old, and love it. He may be our last baby and I am not willing or ready to wean him to loose weight. However, Ive been pregnant or breastfeeding for the past 8+ years and have kept in 5lbs with each baby and Im ready to loose it. I started the C25K running program and am doing the Shred as well for now. Im trying to figure out how many calories to eat to loose weight, feel good and have a good milk supply. Ive had my calories set at 1200 to loose 2lbs a week and added in 400 breastfeeding calories + my exercise cals. The past 2 days Ive had a non stop migraine and am wondering if my calories are too low. To raise them I have to put ot at loosing 1 lba week which sounds so depresseing. I guess I want some resuts and loosing that little sounds so daunting. Maybe I will loose more IDK. But Im wondering if anyone has any experiences loosing weight while BF. How do you know the right calorie intake? My milk supply is fine but I feel so weak/tired and have had sucb a horrible headach for 2 days all I can think is Im not eating enough. My supply is fine ( but then again Ive never had supply issues and since hes my 6ty baby to breastfeed my body knows what its doing well) . . . Anyway, stories of yuur own or thoughts on what to do would be great!
Sent from my C771 using DS Forum excuse any typos. My phone isnt as smart as it thinks it is.

I think you probably need to eat a little more. Of course losing 2lbs a week sounds fabulous but realistically that is a lot to lose in a week. A 1lb a week weight loss is the healthier way to go and will be much easier to maintain.
Keep in mind that with working out you are going to gain muscle. So even though the scale may not be moving you could be losing fat and gaining muscle. Start taking measurements once a week that way when the scale doesn't move to much you can still see that you are losing inches. Also running is pretty exerting so make sure you are fueling your body especially as you get further into the program. I have found that a glass of chocolate milk after a run does wonders for me. It is something about the carbs and protein in it are great at helping the muscles recover.

Re: Loosing Weight and Breastfeeding
1200 is WAY too low. I'd call that barely enough even if you weren't breastfeeding and/or exercising and if you're doing both you most certainly are getting malnourished. The migraines are a sign.
I ate 3600 calories per day breastfeeding and doing 1-hour of aerobics per day and never gained a pound.

Re: Loosing Weight and Breastfeeding
I think you are dehydrated. I get headaches if I am dehydrated. Also, is WWatchers an option? I am 5mo pp and have lost 7lbs in 3 weeks! Its pretty doable.

Re: Loosing Weight and Breastfeeding
I have a 6 wk old and am trying to get rid of the last lbs of baby weight. I lose weight crazy fast in the beg. with nursing but it has slowed down some (about a 1lb every 3 days or so). I've cut out dairy and sugar for my LO, and it has made a wonderful difference with gas pains and being content. I'm not a big grain/carb person, so that leads well to eating paleo. My milk supply has always been fine, but I want to make sure it is fatty!! I've been eating a ton of good fats. Ex:
b: turkey bacon, eggs, fruit, green tea w/coconut milk sn: almonds l: huge salad with avocados, veggies, evoo sn: veggies, nuts, fruit d: salad w/salmon or chix, veggies, sauteed veggies or sw.potato Also just recently (last night) starting working out slowly at the gym. I think it is really hard to gauge calories when bf'ing. The headaches might mean too low cals or dehydration or both. I would up it 500 cals and up the water and see how you feel!

Re: Loosing Weight and Breastfeeding
I don't count calories when ebfing. I make sure to exercise, drink lots of water, eats lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and limit sweets. I eat when hungry and stop when full.

I would give weight watchers a shot, they have a nursing mothers program. I just started back up with it last week and am doing well. I lost 30lbs on it after DD1. Hoping to lose closer to 50 this time (20 to my prepregnancy weight and then more)
