My Mood:
Re: Does anyone have 2 kids + a baby in one bedroom??

My kids share a room. We originally had a 2 bedroom condo so they had no choice. I kept my youngest in the room until about 7 months when the co-sleeping wasn't working for either of us. I was nervous about 3 kids in the room but it went fine just like when I moved my ds in with my oldest. We are staying in a 3 bedroom for now but they like sharing a room so they are still sharing. I like having a room just for sleeping and a room for playing and I plan on doing that until they are a little older.

In the 2 bedroom the closet was really big and split in 3. I hung all the clothes up and put a dresser in the closet. The room they are in now has a much smaller closet so I just hang up the dress clothes, sweaters and one piece outfits. They had a dresser that fits the closet and I have the 3 drawer dresser we had. The dresses is wide and takes up the whole closet and has 9 small drawers. I use one side for each kid. I put shirts in on, pants in another and underwear and socks and baby legs in another drawer. I put the pajamas in the 3 dresser drawer. I saw a platform bed that was on sale on amazon I was thinking of getting but we ended up not needing it but that a good solution f space it really tight.

could you put the older two into the playroom somehow and then give the babe a nursery? Put the toys in the basement, have only a small amount out and rotate, or just purge and consolidate?

I have a 4 yo and twin 2yo sharing a room right now (we live in a 2 bd) and will be adding a baby in July. Baby is going to have to stay in our room for as long as possible because the kids room really has nothing left to spare that is safe. The only place to put a crib or move around the beds (2 twin beds that can stack as bunk beds but twins are not scared either) is right in front of a window and while that isn't so bad, I don't want my twins using the baby crib (or their bed) as a stepping stool to the shade cords...(or the baby for that matter!) plus they have a huge walk in closet that would probably fit a crib easily so we don't have much of a problem with closet space.

What about putting a dresser for the baby in the play room for now? It wouldn't take up that much space. And would give you some time to Find other arrangements?

Unfortunately, no. The toyroom is actually our sunroom. Windows on 3 sides and they're already getting into regular trouble by me for standing on the window ledges (2 story drop to the ground, I'm paranoid). It also leads out to the back deck, so I don't feel safe with an outside door there and them sleeping in it. Our basement is only partially finished, so we wouldn't be able to keep the toyroom down there. I DID just take all of their toys away from them a few weeks back for not picking up and helping me. They have each earned one "group" of toys back (DD her baby doll things, DS2 his musical instruments) and so there's not much in the toyroom now.

Yeah, we have that issue as well in the kids' room with the window. I *could* fit a bed or crib against the one wall, but it would have to be right against the window and I don't feel secure/safe doing that.

I was actually thinking of putting a dresser in the toyroom for baby if I couldn't fit it in the kids' room. Baby will mostly be living in our bedroom anyhow and the toyroom is closer to our room than the kids' room, making night changes and whatnot easier. But I think I found a temporary solution that will work out easier instead...I'll post about it below.

Re: Does anyone have 2 kids + a baby in one bedroom??

So I've been wanting to move DD up into a twin sized bed for a while and found a great deal on CL for a captain's bed with a bookshelf headboard. I drove out and picked it up last night and after wiping it down and getting it set up in the kids' room, I really think this will work.

I was able to move all of DD's dresser stuff to the captain's bed, freeing up 3 drawers for baby clothes and blankets/linens. I purged all of DD and DS2's clothes big time, setting aside all of their outgrown and winter things for the basement storage. Now there's even extra space in the closet for hanging baby stuff - yay! I also moved a small bookshelf that used to be in their room into the closet and have all of our bigger (non nb) cloth diapers stored in there now. I have a 3 drawer plastic rolly cart storage dresser thing I usually use for cloth diapers and nursing supplies that I keep at the end of the PnP in our bedroom and got that filled up and ready.

I did have to move the rocking chair out of their room for now, which is a bummer. But I likely won't be nursing in their room much anyhow if the older two are in there anyway.

And surprisingly, there is room for the captain's bed, DS2's toddler bed and DD's old toddler bed without having to put anything in front of the window. Which means a crib will totally fit in there with both DD's and DS2's beds. Yay! I think I can manage the dresser and closet space for now until we move older DS1 downstairs and I split the 3 littles up into their own boy/girl rooms. WHEW!!
