I cut all of mine into thirds and use them as single or doubled up inserts in gdiapers or just in a cover, or as doublers for nighttime...they're great! A little hard to cut but they don't fray so mine arrant even sewn on the edges. I'm planning on using on a newb whenever I have one too! And for ref my dd is a year old and now I usually use two pcs but used one just fine for a few months. I usually change every pee at home so one is enough

Which way did you cut in thirds? short and squat or long and lean?

I did them both ways. The long ones you can fold in the front for more layers in the wetzone, and the short give more coverage for poop in covers.
