cuts on areola. help!

I have a couple of cuts on my areola. It has happened before, I think ds's teeth scrape it and then it just keeos getting irritated.
Right now it hurts soo bad but hes been favoring that side.
I put cjs butter on it when hes not nursing to help heal it but once he nurses it gets aggrevated again.
Is there anything I can do? Im thinking of getting a nipple shield but im afraid he will not want to nurse. Hes almost 15 months so he will know something is up lol. Any other suggestions?

Yeah, I had that with the top two teeth recently, ow!
I had to rotate nursing positions and get her on the other side more often. Lanolin, polysporin to heal a bit too!

Re: cuts on areola. help!

I just went through that, too! It's amazing how much it hurts! I just barely let her nurse on that side, just enough so that I didn't get too full, and it healed up after a few days. I second the lanolin.

ETA: It actually might help to just let it be, also, without cream or anything on it. If it can dry and scab a little, it might hurt less. Also, expressing a few drops of milk and rubbing it over the cuts might help. (Then let it air-dry.)

Thanks. I have been alternating using bm, lanolin and butter.
I will try switching positions maybe. It just hurts so bad!

Make sure he isn't getting lazy with his latch. He needs to latch on as deeo as he can and remind him to be gentle with Mama.
