Re: Genetic testing?
Have you looked into either the new Verifi or Maternity21 blood testing as an alternative? I've read that they are 99% accurate and are available in all 50 states. Your insurance may not cover the cost, but that is the route that I will go if needed. I am also considered AMA at 36 but I am not comfortable with the risks involved with CVS or Amnio. I will most likely do the NT scan and bloodwork screening and use one of the above mentioned tests if I come back with an elevated risk.

Re: Genetic testing?
No here, for the same reasons as above. It wouldn't change anything.

Re: Genetic testing?
not unless our NT (or verifi/materniti21 test) comes back off. We didn't with any other kid but our DD Abby we did the CVS. We had her NT scan and it came back that she has a greater than 95% chance she had trisomy 13/18. We did the FISH results on the CVS and were able to get basic results in 24hrs and then final results came in about 11 days. She did have trisomy 18. It didnt' change our plan for her, we still carried her until she passed, but we could prepare for her death instead of preparing for a baby that would never be in our arms. Unless I had a reason from the other more reliable tests, I wouldn't just risk it due to age. Also remember twins throws off all tests. But the NT ultrasound part is still fairly reliable. The blood work for genentics on everything is off if you are carrying more than one.

Re: Genetic testing?
Ultimately we decide not to do it because it wouldn't change our decision any and we figured that our personalities are better to deal with it when we have to instead of worrying about it before the baby gets here. Who knows if we would feel like that was the right decision if something turned out wrong, but that's where we are right now.

Re: Genetic testing?
DDC. The only reason I may consider such testing is if the risk of the potential disease/defect is greater than the risk of the procedure. Say the amnio had a 1/200 risk of miscarraige but blood work came back with a risk of 1/20 for a problem, we'd probably consider the test.
But it wouldn't change the outcome so most likely not. Will it change the outcome foryou? What will you do with the knowledge? If something is wrong, will you educateyourself or drived yourself crazy wondering ifyou did something wrong or how you'll handle things? Those are the questions I'd ask myself. Good luck mama!
