Possible VBAC
I talked to my OB a few months ago about a VBAC, and she said as long as the baby's not measuring too large, we could try.
At my last appt I saw the nurse practitioner and she pulled out a calendar and told me "The June schedule is up! Want to scheduled your c-section?" I told her we were trying for a VBAC and she was ok with it, was just curious as to why. My husband sent some FMLA paperwork to the office last week to get filled out and they called me asking about the dates (he dated his leave request the day before my due date 'til 1 month later). They told me that "They try to schedule c-sections before your due date. Does he want to change these dates to 'date of delivery til 1 month postpartum?'" I told her that was fine, but that we were trying for a VBAC, and she asked if my OB told me that if any other Dr. is on call, he won't do a VBAC. Has anyone else had a similar experience? What was your outcome? I guess my question is.... If I go into labor and everything looks ok, will they automatically cut me open if she's not on call??

They cannot force you into a c/s mama, but they can make life difficult for you, so be prepared, I would recommend a doula to advocate for you. Gl!

Re: Possible VBAC
Well, they can't do anything without your consent, but they can make it difficult for you to stop the wheels that are in motion . . .
I did have a similar experience. Early in my pregnancy my OB said I should consider a VBAC. By the end of the pregnancy it was as though she had forgotten this. At 36 weeks my oddly shaped pelvis was still closed, and she yelled, "We're doing a c-section, RIGHT??!?!?" with her hand all up in my lady business. I switched to the midwife practice at the large university medical center in my city at 37 weeks. And I had my VBAC. I didn't get to pick which midwife I had - I just had whoever was on call - but the whole practice was VBAC friendly. They did call the on call OB in once because DD's heart rate had dipped twice, and she was very encouraging and told me she was sure I'd have the baby without her help. I can only imagine my old OB yelling, "See! I let you try! Now let's do the c/s!" in the same situation.Have you looked up c/s rates for your OB and the practice? They are widely available. I was surprised to see that my OB had a c/s rate above 30%, and also an episiotomy rate above 30%. The midwife practice had a c/s rate below 20% and an almost non-existent episiotomy rate. Not every practice is the same. If you want a VBAC, I highly encourage you to switch to a practice where they're rooting for you to have a VBAC, not just "letting" you.

Re: Possible VBAC
Ahh! So what might they do if I go into labor and someone else is on call?
I was induced a day after my due date last time, but I want to be more on this little guy's schedule this time. I seriously believe my induction was the reason for the c-section. I was in labor for about 19 hours and she was staying put.

If somebody else is on call and you are in labor and you show up at the hospital, the worst they can do is recommend you go have a cesarean, and you can say no. That's it. Just say no, they can't send you home. If you are determined to labor and push out your own baby, go for it.
They can't force you to do anything but they can sure put up a fight, be prepared (tell your SO or birth support people to advocate for you, that shouldn't be your job). At one point in my labor with my vba2c attempt in 2010, my hubby had to firmly tell the doctor to stop repeatedly coming in my room suggesting a cesarean while I was having contractions...it was awful how they pressured me to do what they wanted. I wish vbac wasn't such a fight, I am sorry they are being so difficult. But keep in mind doctors do not"let" you do things, it is your choice and all they can do is recommend things.

Thanks... the way the office said it, I wouldn't have a choice and if someone else was there, I was SOL

So, a doula is a great idea, but generally speaking, she will not be able to speak for the mom in any way. Some doulas feel differently, but it makes doctors and nurses uncomfortable if they feel that the doula is talking for the mom (usually).
