Re: Teen mom....Hope?
I absolutely did not agree with the whole inductions/csection but I would also be concerned about her weight. Over 200, pregnant or not, at her age and height is not healthy, no matter what way you slice it. If I remember right, the appointment when he was concerned about her weight gaining was around the 26 week mark and she still had weeks to go yet. She ended up over 200 at the end of the pregnancy. From the sounds of it, she really wasnt in a particularly healthy place BEFORE the pregnancy so even adding on only 20lbs (if that is what the total ended up being) could come with major health risks to her and the baby.

Re: Teen mom....Hope?
I actually don't watch much lately, but we get free cable at our new house (well, basic cable is included with cable internet) and I caught this episode the other night.
I really liked Hope and Ben and I think they were handling parenthood a lot better than some of the other kids I've seen profiled in the past. They weren't pawning the baby off on their parents, etc and they seemed to be responsible. I agree with PPs that the one thing that irked me was the whole induction/c-section. That poor girl just didn't realize she could have (probably) avoided major surgery. She did not need to be induced for any valid medical reason, and the 10 hours of labor is nothing and certainly no cause for a c-section. I had to be induced for medical reasons, and from the start of induction to the time I delivered vaginally was about 34 hours.

![]() ![]() . I wonder if she would have even wanted the induction if he wasn't making her feel so bad about her weight gain. The couple seemed fine, kinda boring, but good for them!

Re: Teen mom....Hope?
I'm glad my OB (with DS1) and midwives (with DS2 and DS3) didn't put a 10-hour time limit on my labors... I would have gotten a section with all three, because my labors were much longer than that. And I really hope MTV just edited out the doctor giving her all the information about a c-section, because his whole attitude about it was really passive.
I can see why they brought up her weight, though. She gained a lot of weight with her pregnancy, and was so swollen... that's simply not normal. And this coming from someone who has gained a lot of weight with each pregnancy (65 lbs, 38 lbs, and 50 lbs respectively). I wish the doctor had given her advice on how to manage her weight gain, instead of just telling her to slow down though. I'm glad she was proactive in getting a job after the baby was born. While it wasn't a choice I would have made, it seems like the best option for her. She seemed really down after giving birth, and I think getting out of the house and interacting with other people probably kept her from developing full blown PPD. I'm really glad her boyfriend stepped up during her pregnancy, and he seemed like a decent guy by the end of the episode. I didn't like her mom's advice of don't expect anything from men, because men suck... I get what she was trying to say, but that attitude that men are just awful and can't/won't help really annoys me.
