My DD is 6 months old and EBF. About two weeks ago we introduced rice cereal. We did 2 tablespoons mixed with breastmilk once a day at about 5:00pm daily. Since starting, she's been spitting up a ton! Sometimes it's chunky and two hours after she ate last. I spoke with her doctor and she told us to chill on the rice for a while and then introduce oatmeal cereal. Anyone else have similar experiences?

More recent studies are showing that grains are not the best first food. I would try some sweet potato or avocado, instead! There is also no need to rush with the solids, if they don't agree with your little one.

Agree with PP!! We had to wait on the rice cereal with DD but started on the other foods. One major sign that they aren't ready for solids is the spitting up! Just wait a few more weeks and see if that helps!!

Try the avocado first, like suggested. We have been giving my son rice cereal and oatmeal for months because of reflux. Trust me, I wouldn't give him cereal if I didn't have to. He will spit up almost his entire bottle if I don't, though, and he still spits up sometimes even with the cereal, just not nearly as much. We recently started him on purees, one being avocado, and he loved it! No spitting up.

Give it a try!

Banana is a good one also to start with because it is sweet like breast milk. I also do oatmeal because solids made my ds constipated.

DD is now 8 months (and still breastfed) and we've finally narrowed it down to a dairy sensitivity: if I eat a lot of cheese or yogurt, her spitting is much worse the next day.

Oatmeal cereal instead of rice seems to help the spitting for some reason...Good luck, Mama!
