Making bad financial decisions...
Just need a place to vent or something. My DH works hard and made a lot of money with his regular job and also has a business and makes money from that. I have been mostly in charge of the finances but I have been really irresponsible. In the month of April we spent almost $2000 on groceries and toiletries. A lot of that was going out to eat almost every day and the rest was for groceries. I also spent a LOT on shopping. I would just spend money like it was going out of style and didn't have a budget or figure out what bills I could pay or anything like that. So fast forward to today, my husband quit his full time job and his last day was April 20th. We have no savings (of course) and we received the last paycheck three weeks ago. I thought and was Counting on him having another paycheck. They have already turned off the water. We have already done too many payday loans and now that he's not sure when he will get paid for the work he is doing we have no way of paying them. I know that I have been spending money and not being responsible for a long time now...but I don't want my babies to suffer because of it. We are out of money, no water, have some food but dishes are piling up fast. I am going to try to sell anything I can. I don't know what else to do...

Why did he quit his job? IMHO, THAT is irresponsible. Does he have any leads on new jobs? Are you out looking?
Are you in state assistance for food? There are also programs for utilities. |

Re: Making bad financial decisions...
He quit his job so he could do his business full time. He is working on a job now but we don't know when he will get paid for it after he is done with it. He meets with them next Tuesday after he gets all the programming done. I am not looking for work-I never thought about doing that....mainly because my husband can make a LOT more money than I ever could. Like 10x more-literally!
I have a WIC appt on the 22nd but haven't asked for help because I didn't think we qualified. I will definitely give it a try though.

Re: Making bad financial decisions...
Does your husband understand exactly what is going on? When will you be able to get the water back on? What are you doing about toilet, bathing, etc?

Re: Making bad financial decisions...
We are currently taking sponge baths with a bucket of water from the neighbors. We are also using their water to flush our toilet with a few times a day. I am not sure when we are going to be able to get it turned back on...we are just trying to come up with some ways to make the money we need to get it back on.
Yes, my husband understands what's going on now. It's hard to talk to him and tell him when things get bad sometimes because he is unstable and not on any medication right now.

Re: Making bad financial decisions...
mama I am so sorry you are in this place with your children. I think you are right about selling things. There are gold places that buy all over now. You could start listing your electronics on Craigslist. You need to go to your local place for assistance first thing Monday morning for whatever emergency help they can offer.

Re: Making bad financial decisions...
When will he take a check from his business? Will it be enough to support you? Can he take the check now?
Do you have things with tags on still that you can return? |

Re: Making bad financial decisions...
I think you need to sit down with your husband and talk. He needs to get another job asap. If he wants to do his own thing job wise he needs to have atleast 8 months of savings to get going. I don't see how you would be able to work other than taking in a child or two for daycare because daycare for your kids would be more than min. wage. He needs to admit he made a bad choice and get a job before your family ends up on the street.

I understand he can make a lot, but he isn't and you both need to think about that. At this point, one of you needs to get a job ASAP for steady income until, like po said, you have 8 months to a year of savings.
