Re: Prefolds and a squirmy baby

We actually gave up on prefolds around 7 months because of this. Even though they were our favorite style. Our son is a little over a year now and has calmed a bit for diaper changes, so we are thinking of heading back to prefolds. We do use workhorses still, the only thing I would hesitate for prefolds now is cleaning poo off of them. We don't have a sprayer, so cleaning pf's is hard for us.

There is. Thread under master sticky on how to put a prefold on a baby on its stomach. It works well for when they squirm away from you

Re: Prefolds and a squirmy baby

My prefolds are my favorite and I'm going to be sad when it's a chore to get them on my DD!

Re: Prefolds and a squirmy baby

We've been struggling with this too. I just got a couple of custom fleece LIO's from Loveybums (cheaper than their regular wool LIO's) for the extra squirmy times. I'm too cheap to build a whole stash of non-prefolds, but this is a good compromise for us.

I tried putting a prefold on backwards and it was a little easier keeping him still this way and it will probably get easier with practice.

Here is a pic from our first diaper change today.

Re: Prefolds and a squirmy baby

Here's what I do:
1) Lay flat prefold on changing table.
2) Lay baby on top of diaper with top edge of the diaper near her waist, where I want it to be.
3) Baby sits up. I have no patience, so instead of continuing to fight the "lie-down / sit-up" battle, I twist the prefold one-half turn as close to the changing table height (near her crotch) as I can, and then Snappi it in place. (Sometimes I do wrestle her down once more for the Snappi fastening part.) The prefold gathers it around her crotch automatically with the twist, and it seems to work fairly well.

When she was younger I distracted her with a plastic grocery sack (never leave with baby while baby is unattended!), but that has lost its charm for her.

I herd recently use a sticker it is very distracting cause it sticks to their fingers. Tried it yesterday and it worked great!

Re: Prefolds and a squirmy baby

I just traced the shape of one of our fitteds and winged it. It turned out okay. Works well with a trifolded GMD red prefold, but a little too narrow in the rear to fit over some of our fitteds.
