Re: Placenta Encapsulation?
Well DH isn't the one eating it...
Yeah it's a little snarky, but DH is in the doghouse with me right now, lol

I was looking into it. But i plan on letting the placenta stop pumping blood to LO before cutting the cord. I was told all the nutrients will be in LO if i do that and not as much in the placenta.... i dont know if this is correct. But ill keep doing my research :-)

That's a good point. We're hoping to donate cord blood (if md Anderson accepts us) so most of the blood will be drained from my placenta too. My other thought was what if there's meconium? It's usually on the baby's side but can get smeared onto other surfaces as well.

Re: Placenta Encapsulation?
I am doing this, this time around. I had terrible pp depression and want to avoid that and the meds this time. I also love the fact that it will boost your milk supply. However, I couldn't do it myself. I am having a certified doula come to the house and do mine.

This is actually the first time I've ever heard of humans eating there own placenta I don't even like touching or smelling raw bloody meat so there is no way I could do anything with mine the hospital will have to take care of that

Re: Placenta Encapsulation?
mammals do it routinely. I think some cultures around the globe do it too. Just not a common thing here in the US. I would never eat it in it's natural state but the capsules I can do. Placentas are cool to look at so if you remember, ask to look or even touch yours. Okay, maybe it's just me that thinks it would be cool to touch my own placenta. I am the person who made it a point on my surgical rotations to touch every single internal organ if possible. Didn't do a neurosurgery rotation though so no brain touching...not sure they would allow that anyway. It's really cool to hold the intestines when it's doing peristalsis (how food is moved through the gut).

Re: Placenta Encapsulation?
I had wicked baby blues and an awful time postpartum with DS so I am paying to have mine encapsulated this time around. For those who have done it before...is it hard to get the hospital to release it to you or is that part pretty easy?
