Heat rash from PUL?
I've always used wool in the past, especially during summer so this is new to me. We had decided not to go the wool route with our 9mo. Our stash is primarily BGEs right now...and just with even mild heat my baby's skin is SO sweaty and he's getting heat rash. We have had a little warm weather over the past few days and he's been working on a rash from it. I put him in our one and only wool cover and some almost-too-small prefolds and it is already clearing up. I don't really have anything else breathable to put on him though. Ugh.
Is this pretty normal with PUL? We live in an area that gets into the 80s-90s in the summer and a/c is really rare here. I'm wondering if I should try to get my hands on some bigger prefolds and some wool covers for him.

Re: Heat rash from PUL?
I don't know how normal it is but this is what happened with my DD. DS never had an issue with pockets in the Summer but he did with sposies. Why not get some flats and a few wool soakers? Or we also do well with Nikky/Niji covers.

Re: Heat rash from PUL?
I just remembered - I may be able to get back some GMD brown edge prefolds I loaned to a friend a couple years ago - she actually mentioned it to me recently that she wanted to give them back since her dd is PLed. I'll see if can either make them fit him (he's only 9mo and small for his age) or turn them into prefitteds. I may just let him go coverless in those at home on hot days until I can figure out some funds for another soaker or maybe a Nikky cover. We tried a Nikky breathable cover when he was a newborn and I liked it a lot actually.
I don't want to get rid of our PUL completely since our summer season is short and I like them otherwise, but yeah I think we better have some breathable stuff on hand.

Re: Heat rash from PUL?
PUL doesn't really breathe well, my DS got rashy from it when he was just 2-3 months old. Wool, fleece, nylon, breathable cotton or breathable poly -- ALL will breathe better than PUL.
ETA -- > it took a couple days of using a breathable cover, consistently, to see the rash clear up and his skin look noticeably nicer. However, since quitting PUL he hasn't had any issues since then.

Re: Heat rash from PUL?
Agreed! My son was super sweaty in PUL, and wool was much cooler, not to mention, more leak-proof.

Re: Heat rash from PUL?
This happens to my son, pretty bad, so in the summer we use fitteds and wool.

Re: Heat rash from PUL?
My DD got heat rashes from PUL so I switched to all Green Line diapers. They are waterproof but not PUL and they are breathable. She has not had a heat rash since we switched. We used to do wool which is great but it is so bulky. Green Lines are very trim.

Re: Heat rash from PUL?
Yup, my DD had the same issue with PUL
I could get away with using wool for naps and nighttime, if I wanted to. You might try that first and see if it helps! Good luck.
