Can you school me on lapbooking?

I'm new to lapbooking. I've heard lots of awesome things about it, but I'm not quite sure I even understand what it is or how exactly it's done. From what I understand, you can make one on any subject or topic of study. I have'nt really found any helpful websites. Do you make them with 3 ring binders or file folders? Do you make them from scratch or print off pages? Any advice or info you have on this would be appreciated!

homeschoolshare.com has "pre-prepared" lapbooks units you can check out. Their blog also has some good info on how to do it.

I was going to suggest the same site as the PP! We use www.homeschoolshare.com a LOT for our lapbooking for DD in K. We typically get books out of the library and use national geographic for kids online to find all the info to complete them. We'll also add our own stuff and leave out things that we don't really like. The other nice thing about that website is that they have blank templates that you can use to do your own subject once you're comfortable with that.

Yes, you typically make these with file folders and there is also 'notebooking' which uses 3 ring binders.

Currclick is a great place to buy lapbooks too! They are cheap and come with everything you need.

We've only used the ones from www.handsofachild.com.
They are provided by the school we work with. I have just this term started adding in my own things to go with it as I find they aren't hands on enough for my boys. We used them for science and there aren't any experiements, my boys learn better by actually doing not cutting and pasting facts onto a piece of paper. That being said I would have been TOTALLY lost without them when we first started in Sept. but now that we have been HS for almost a year we are ready to add more details.
