NB stash?
I know we're all still pretty early, but I am so insanely excited to be using cloth from day one this time. (DD1 was in sposies, DS started cloth at 8 months, and DD2 and DD3 started cloth when they fit in size small diapers) I'm also a planner, and with money being tight, I don't want to wait too long to start getting what I need. Considering this is baby number five, I doubt we'll get much help with anything, so I'm thankful diapers are about all I need! Anyway, I know I want a good amount of the BG XS, as we use the sized diapers in small, medium, and large already, and they are the only diapers that consistently work for us. I'd also like some fitteds, prefolds, covers, and wool in the mix though. So, those who have CD'd a NB before, what do suggest for fitteds, covers, and wool? I only want one wool cover, but would like it to fit from the beginning, and planning on maybe six fitteds and two dozen prefolds (which I already have, these were our wash day diapers when our girls were in size small, just folded them inside a cover).

Ill be interested in answers! I didnt start using cloth until dd2 was 3mos. Since she was already 17/18lbs then we went right into meds. I do have some prefolds but all out covers are med so while Im expecting another big! baby I dont think baby will fit into meds right off the bat lol

Re: NB stash?
I'm opting for prefolds/flats and covers. Most likely start off with infant prefolds and no covers until the umbilical cord falls off, and then opt for some Thirsties duos size 1, and OS covers.
Then, when my maternity leave is over, I will order some OS pockets to make it easier on Daddy.

If you are looking for a good inexpensive cover, I suggest the Kawai baby OS covers. I used them from the beginning with DS2 who was 8lbs 12 oz. and fit great and really soft material. They are slightly smaller than say the econobum cover. I have used several brands of covers and these are the best.

Regarding the fitteds, I'm going to recommend GMD Workhorse. I didn't stumble upon them until ds was in size Medium (red-edge), but so far I've gotten my hands on 2 dozen Small (yellow-edge) and paid for eighteen Newborn (orange-edge) just this morning. I love, love, love that you can get them in closure-free (and they Snappi great - I'm just afraid of pins!) OR with snaps - dh really appreciates snaps. They're plain jane, just white, no fancy prints or anything - but are 100% cotton and economically priced for fitteds. Brand new from Green Mountain Diapers, the newborn size are $5.00 each. So, you could get the six you want, fairly cheaply.

Re: NB stash?
OK, I've CD'd one newbie and this is what worked for us:
24 preemie prefolds (I laid these right in a cover; no pinning or folding required) 3 bummis superbrite covers 4 thirsties duo size one covers 12 newborn fitteds that I made using the VeryBaby pattern 30 infant prefolds (trifolded into a cover once we had lost the cord and outgrown the preemie absorbancy) I also made some AIOs that leaked ... so I'll def. buy some xs pockets this time. Preemie prefolds are fantastic because they can be used as doublers, as quick mama cloth, and they absorb potty learning accidents like nothing else

Re: NB stash?
I love CDing newborns!! Newborn bottoms look so cute in cloth. I used a combo of fitteds (that I made myself) and BG last time. I really liked the BG, but the fitteds are just so soft with the velour. I haven't made my mind up yet what I want to do with this one.

Re: NB stash?
I'm doing Kawaii NB Bamboo diapers (water proof), GMD workhorse diapers and Meg A Roo extended tab prefolds (sending her some infant size ones I have from cottonbabie to have her refurbish them!).

Re: NB stash?
OS diapers don't work for my kiddos.
![]() I had forgotten about the GMD workhorse diapers, maybe I will get more like 9-12 fitted diapers if they will be so cheap. ![]() I have the newborn prefolds, and we are constantly using them for everything. I really love them. Our main use right now is in our pocket diapers for overnight. Are these way too big for the average newborn? I am sure we'd use the preemie size long past the newborn stage if we bought some, but I'd like to keep the diapers to what we really need. I'm thinking fitteds with wool at night (nice and cozy), then the BG XS during the day, and the prefolds w/covers on wash day. I just looked up the wool cover I have for my two year old, and found out they do make one that GMD says fits 6-13lbs, but I'm slightly skeptical of it fitting that small. Has anybody here used the Disana Organic Merino Wool Pull-On in the smallest size? I absolutely love that cover for my two year old, and it would be perfect for what I want it for once baby's cord comes off. At least if it would fit.
