I'm curious too, I dont want to give the fourth round of shots Lucy is due for at her one year check up if its not necessary. I posted about it on MDC and the responses weren't really clear.

Re: Can someone explain booster shots??

From what I've read, I *think* that you require booster shots because you're not getting the ACTUAL sickness. Your body is being tricked into believing it has gotten the sickness, so to keep immunity up and lessen the chance of getting the disease, your body needs a small extra dose of the vaccine at certain times.

I guess it's kind of like if you get a mild case of Chicken Pox, it's likely you'll get them again. But if you get a full blown case, you've got lifetime immunity. Vaccines are like mild cases, as opposed to the full blown diseases.

We don't vaccinate, we kept our sons intact, we use cloth diapers, we co-sleep, we extended RF, we breastfeed, but we watch too much tv and I totally dig plastic! Everyone has their issues, lol.

Re: Can someone explain booster shots??

I remember when I was 5 and my mother took me to get my tetnius (SP?) and that thing hurt sooooo bad that my arm swelled up and I could not hold it. Anyway that is the only shots I remember getting but there may have been more that I did get but just don't realize it. But in regards to boosters it is just like a maintance shot to keep the immunity to the the first round of shots in the your body. just like what PP said!
