Is this bad?

I've started taking red raspberry leaf capsules, I'm only up to 1440mg/day at this point but I've noticed that about an hour after I take them I get contractions. Nothing regular or too painful.

I think its just my uterus getting ready but dh is worried that if I keep taking them and upping my dosage I'm going to induce labor. Thoughts from experienced mamas?

Re: Is this bad?

I took them my whole pregnancy. I had a lot of BH contractions with both pregnancies, but i never went into labor early (late with both actually).

Re: Is this bad?

Are you 34 weeks right now? I took it with both of my pregnancies and my first went two weeks late, but my second went two weeks early. I don't attribute it to that though he was just a big boy and ready. I think you need to listen to your body and if you are seeing a pattern after taking them maybe don't increase or hold off until 36 weeks or so. I always had a ton of BH contractions with and without RRL.

Yes, 34 weeks. Yeah, it's the pattern that scares DH. If I skip my dosage for the day, no ctx, but when I take them I always get at least a few ctx later.

Re: Is this bad?

rrl is really great for toning the uterus and getting it ready for birth. i took it with my last pregnancy and am taking it again with this one. but, i've never noticed a pattern like you're describing. and also, i had a different midwife each time, and neither of them would have me start taking it until 36-37 weeks (i gave birth right at 40 weeks last time, and i'm almost 39 now, so it didn't put me into labor). i even asked about it at 34 weeks this time to make sure that they were all onboard with it, and they were like "definitely! but don't take it now". so....i dunno. did your midwife/dr suggest you start taking them this early? i've drank rrl tea throughout my pregnancy with no problem. but taking it in a capsule, with high doses, and especially with the pattern you're seeing, i think i'd consider either lowering the dosage, or holding off altogether for a few more weeks. jmo.

RRL is a good thing to take, it will not put you into labor - it does tone the uterus though, so that's why you're having warm ups I would hold off on evening primrose oil, though. I know a lot of mamas take it early, but I wouldn't start it until term (37 weeks.) I took it with DS at 36 weeks, and had him 2 days later - much too early.
